Talk: "Gilkicker Fort" by Lewis Sharp

Talk: "Gilkicker Fort" by Lewis Sharp, Friday 27th February 2026
We often hold our talks at The Hornet and invite their members to come along too. This time it's The Hornet who have arranged a talk and kindly invited members of Haslar Yacht Club to join them. Lewis Sharp of The Palmerston Forts Society will be presenting a short history of Gilkicker Fort followed by a detailed description of the recent findings and some of the remaining mysteries seen at the site.
The talk will take place in The Fabrosa room of Hornet Services Sailing Club. If you intend to have dinner at The Hornet beforehand it would help the galley staff if you would pre-order your meal in advance. The bar menu can be found on the Hornet Clubhouse website here (just scroll to the bottom of the page & look for Downloads) and you should email your choice to events@haslaryachtclub.co.uk by 18:00 on Saturday 21st Feb please. Payment will be at the bar on the night by credit card only. Please note that cancellation can only take place up to 18:00 on Tuesday 24th Feb.
To gain entry to The Hornet site you must book a ticket for each person who wishes to attend so that all the names are on the list sent to their office. You will need to show the Security guards some photo ID of either your driving licence or your passport.
The itinerary for the evening is:
18:00 - 19:00 Happy Hour - bar open at The Hornet for drinks and meals at member's own cost
19:30 - 20:30 Talk in the Fabrosa Room
20:30 Q&As
