Planning a Channel Crossing
Published 19:11 on 17 May 2026
The evening talk in the Haslar marina conference room on Friday 15th May was attended by 12 members, and could have been a handful more but for illness and other commitments. We were pleased to welcome Jackie Thompson and Sarah Carter and our newest recruits, Chris and Karen White who joined very recently.
John Walker gave a talk using a pre-prepared presentation, Planning a Channel Crossing, that is available in .pdf form below. Also some Channel Crossing notes, prepared for last year's event, when we visited Cherbourg, Sark and Guernsey. These have been recently updated, and include an introduction to the formalities on both sides of the channel.
Brian Masters and Charles Dingle provided some additional input.
Our plan this year is to depart around 12th/13th June for Cherbourg, provided that the weather is sensible, otherwise to delay until it is. We will arrange to enjoy a meal together on the other side. After that, it is up to you.. endless possibilities. John will be heading with Kiwi to south Devon, probably via Bray in Alderney.
It looks as if we may see 6 or more boats making the initial crossing together, and enjoying some French hospitality in the days that follow. The more the merrier! Please sign up now to the event so that we can see who would like to come, and so keep in touch. There will be a Whatsapp group nearer the time.
